This was painted in one of the most magical places in New Orleans: City Park. The "flying horses" of City Park's antique wooden carousel is one of only 100 antique wooden carousels left in the country and the last one in Louisiana. The day I visited to get my sketches, there were about forty screaming children enjoying birthday cake and riding "all the horsies". This golden one was my favorite, complete with jeweled harness and golden saddle. I added 14K gold leaf to the saddle and all the poles. Wish I could have added the wonderfully out-of-tune calliope music too!
